Sumy has extensive experience as corporate and transactional counsel to clients in the pharmaceutical business, including complex transactions in strategic partnering and alliances, intellectual property acquisition, divestiture and licensing, research and development, manufacturing and supply, distribution and co-promotion.

Prior to FDR, Sumy was an Associate General Counsel at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. responsible for managing the Discovery and Development Group within the legal department in supporting the company’s global drug discovery, development and licensing activities. Sumy also served on the committee responsible for managing Millennium’s product pipeline and the business team for the company’s marketed oncology product. Sumy was the lead in-house attorney for the development and commercialization alliance with Ortho Biotech for Millennium’s first oncology drug and for the U.S. launch of that product.

Prior to joining Millennium, Sumy was Counsel to the Parke-Davis pharmaceutical division of Warner-Lambert Company in North America and South Africa. Sumy began her career as a member of the business transactions group of Sidley & Austin (now Sidley Austin LLP) in New York, focusing on secured financing and M&A transactions and initial public offerings.

Sumy received a B.A. from Yale University, summa cum laude, and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
